I own a streaming video business and the quality of the video camera I use to demonstrate my products to customers is extremely important. The flip is extremely easy to use, easy to carry everywhere and it has a great picture too! This camera has allowed me to instantly tape my customers anywhere and assist them with sending video emails around the world!!

I purchased the Flip Black Video Ultra for my wife. She really loves how simple it is use. Just turn it on, and push record.

My wife really likes how small it is (she carries it around in her purse), and how quickly it turns on(2~3 seconds).

When you are ready to get the video on your computer, just connect it to a USB port. The software launches and it only takes a couple of mouse clicks to create a movie. The video quality is good for short clips and family movies, but the resolution is well below HD and prosumer requirements.

I highly recommend this camcorder for anyone who wants to simplify the process of capturing video of their lives. We still wish it had optical zoom and a higher resolution, but these were clearly spelled out in the specifications so we knew we could live without these. Besides, you can't beat the price.

The flip is great for those who just want something that is ultra simple and doesn't need any configuration. It's very easy to use, and is small and well built. For those who are only interested in recording small clips of video and uploading them to youtube, or emailing to whom ever, this is a great product.

For those of us that do like a little control, the product falls short in a number of areas.

1. It uses .3ivx encoding, which is not supported well by most video editing products, such as adobe premier elements. If you already own video editing software, I suggest you google the name of your software plus "3ivx" and see what message boards have to say.

Also, .3ivx is not supported by the PS3 (playstation 3), which I use for streaming media to my tv from my computer.

2. If you use the software that it comes with, it will save your media to a set of folders in "my documents", and you can't change this location. The built-in editing software gives you the ability to change the start and end position of a given clip, that's it.

3. You can't create one file from multiple clips. Everytime you click the stop button, another file is created. I don't record continuously. If I take this to a party or something, I will record in little segments. Later on, when I want to watch all these little segments together, I can't cuz I have all these little files. Since most editing software doesn't like .3ivx, you should convert them to something else first (resulting in a loss of quality), then you have to edit them all together and create a new file.

I'm not upset that I bought the flip. Because of its size, it will always be useful in certain situations. I'll probably replace this some time when flash hd cameras work a little better and come down in price.

I just returned from a trip to India and Nepal and I wanted a video of my trip. Not being very techno savvy I ordered the Flip for it's ease of use, size and price. I love it!

The video is great, the very lightweight size makes it so handy, never intrusive in any situation. It is so easy, and as soon as you press the one button you feel like a pro. It did not drain batteries badly either, something I worried about for the trip. I now keep it right in my purse, ready to go when that special moment happens!

Bought the Flip Video Ultra Camcorder for a family reunion. Captured Mother's 100th birthday party, lots of friends and relatives that we haven't seen in years, and it couldn't have been easier. Only negative is that we bought the camera while traveling and managed to set the date one day off. Doesn't seem to be fixable......ah well! Had a little trouble in the beginning with the play and stop button. Took a few practice shots to learn to push the red button with fingernail rather than thumb. The camera was easy to use and carry around and I just love videos and sound as opposed to a still camera.

I love the flip ultra. I use it with my mac with no problems. The first time I hooked it up, I didn't have sound to the videos but I updated quicktime and now I have no problems. I know the quality isn't excellent but it's pretty darn good for how much it is. The first thing I did was hook it up to the TV to see some of the test video and my husband and I were impressed. We still have our expensive camcorder that we'll use for important events but now I'm capturing all the cute little things my 1 year old does day to day because we just pick it up and push a button. I've been using it now for a couple months here and there and still haven't had to change batteries. It is decent in lowlight. It's challenging to keep it steady, you can compare that aspect of it to holding a phone steady while taking video - it's small and handheld so that was expected. The ring around the lens seems to scratch easily and I do keep my in the bag at all times when I'm not using it so I'm not sure how that happened so quick but the lens is fine and I've had no other problems.

Bottom line is that it was just what I wanted. I missed out on so many little cute things my one year old was doing because I didn't bother to grab the camcorder out of the camera bag and once I turned that on, I would tape for a while and it is such a process to hook my camcorder to the computer and upload the video. This takes care of those little moments and uploading is so easy. I try to keep our home videos interesting by just including small clips instead of long drawn out recordings so this was perfect. I LOVE my flip. At first my husband was like, "Oh no! What did you buy now!!". But now he loves it just as much and loves to show it off to our friends. In fact, 2 other friends of ours with kids just bought them because they were impressed with ours.
